I was recently was reminded about the lack of service that is being delivered in advertising today. I was shocked to say the least, that many advertising businesses in the united states do not understand the simple concept of "Service".
I have believed that this lack of service is the single worst problem in the advertising industry today. I have seen Print Advertising Sales Reps walk into a business and simply say I am here to pick up your ad and payment for this week. What happened to the ad agency working with the customer to design an effective ad piece. I always wonder when I see this type of Sales Rep, why don't they do more for the business. Personally I think building a business partnership with all of my clients would be beneficial to me and the ad agency that I work with.
Providing Great Service before and after a sales is made was always the cornerstone of companies that thrived in the early 1900s. How is it that we have come so far that we no longer value great service as part of a business relationship. What happened to the days of 1 on 1 selling? The lack of Service in the world of business is utterly appalling. Since the early 1980s the United States has become this convenient society that wants the lowest price, and wants the product or service instantly. Yet over 80% of all advertising being sold by sales reps does not have a personal touch. Advertising pricing has skyrocketed over the past 10 years. Just look at the Super Bowl Ad spots. I is my opinion that these ads are way overpriced.
I recently was scouting some of my advertising competitors in the digital signage industry and could not understand how they could charge customers what they charge, and still sleep at night.I had 1 competitor that bragged about squeezing every dollar he could out of every customer, yet he does not provide a good service or offer to help his customers create effective advertising. I have been involved with advertising and marketing for over 27 years, and have never ignored my customers needs.In the Advertising world building relationships, and providing great customer service is essential to growing an advertising business and revenue. So why are so many businesses not providing customer service? I do want to thank all of the advertising companies that provide sub par service.Simply because I will work harder and smarter and give your customers the SERVICE they deserve, then they will be my customers not yours...
